The Pilot

Three tracks recorded at the edge of the South East coast. Analogue drum machines, a lot of tape hiss, and a sun that never quite sets. Phil played almost everything on it himself — guitars, keys, synths, bass, octapad and drum machines — with backing vocals from Angela Brooks.

Who is transmitting

One man,
several decades
at once.

Written and recorded in a house in East Sussex, The Girl From Tomorrow is one project with several decades running through it at once — synth textures, real instruments, and a vocal that owes more to soul records than to anything on a grid. Phil calls it Organicwave. The reference points run from Sade and Alexander O’Neal through to Tame Impala, Adamski and Droid Bishop.

Live, it is the same rig that made the record — drum machines, synths, guitar and voice — played solo or with a full band depending on the room. It is built to be self-contained: turn up, plug in, and the transmission starts on time.
